Review: Paranormalcy by Kiersten White

Title: Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy #1)
Author: Kiersten White
Pages: 335
Publisher: HarperTeen
Weird as it is working for the International Paranormal Containment Agency, Evie’s always thought of herself as normal. Sure, her best friend is a mermaid, her ex-boyfriend is a faerie, she's falling for a shape-shifter, and she's the only person who can see through paranormals' glamours, but still. Normal.
Only now paranormals are dying, and Evie's dreams are filled with haunting voices and mysterious prophecies. She soon realizes that there may be a link between her abilities and the sudden rash of deaths. Not only that, but she may very well be at the center of a dark faerie prophecy promising destruction to all paranormal creatures.
So much for normal.

Paranormalcy is about Evie who is a permanent resident/worker of IPCA (International Paranormal Containment Agency) where she "bag and tag" paranormal since she's the only person who can see through the glamour of these creatures. There are a lot I liked about this book and there are a few that irritated me as well making it harder to decide if I loved or hated the book. :|

The story is very intriguing and I was definitely curious as to how the story will unravel. It's a fast and easy read and quite entertaining with all the sarcasm and quirky banters by the characters. The characters were entertaining although there are some that really irked me. Evie is an interesting character, right off the bat you will definitely know that there's something different with her. Reth was a little weird and I wasn't sure what his deal was - stalker or over protective ex - or something else entirely. I wasn't really sure. Lend was refreshing - not your usual paranormal I should say but definitely a character worth loving.

There are a few things that I noticed though. For starters, what's with the pink stun gun with rhinestones and named Tasey??? I mean, pink and rhinestones wasn't enough, you have to name the stun gun Tasey? Arrrrrrr.  Minor irritation there. Speaking of stun guns, why is that Evie's main weapon of defense for paranormals? I mean, if you are a paranormal, how can you be knocked off by a stun gun??? *face palm* Next is the cover - how is it even related to the story? I really don't get it though it's a lovely cover. Lastly, Reth. Why? Read it, creepy creature. Although there's a lot to not like about this book, the good stuff over weighs it.

Overall, a great book to read. Never dull or boring plus you would definitely laugh reading some of the dialogues and picturing most of the scenes. Looking forward to reading Supernaturally. :)
